Birth and early life of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji


Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji was born on November 13, 1780, in Gujranwala in Badrukhan, modern Gujarat, Pakistan. He was the son of Sardar Mahasingh of Misl and Mai Raj Kaur. At the age of 10, he fought his first battle with his father. In fact, he was adept in military skills from the very beginning and had all the qualities of a ruler.

He suffered from smallpox in his childhood, due to which the vision in his left eye also diminished. Maharaja Ranjit Singh had to face a lot of struggles in the early days of his life. When he was 12 years old, his father died, after which he became the Misaldar of Sukarchakia Michel.

Apart from this, there was also a fatal attack on him by a person named Hashmat Khan, although his attempt to kill Ranjit Singh ji proved unsuccessful.

When Ranjit Singh ji was 16 years old, he was married to a girl named Mehtaba Kaur.

On the advice of his Sansa Sadakaur, the greatest ruler of the Sikhs, Maharaja Ranjit Singh launched a vigorous attack on Ramgadiya, although he had to face defeat in this battle.

Then around 1797, when he was 17 years old, he started ruling independently.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh was crowned as the Maharaja of Punjab:


Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab on 12 April 1801 AD, on the day of Baisakhi, Ranjit Singh was crowned the Maharaja of Punjab. Later this Ranjit Singh was called the Lion of Punjab.

During his reign, he annexed small princely states and made his kingdom so prosperous and powerful that despite being powerful during that time, British East India could not take control over Punjab.

Bravery and victorious campaign of Maharaj Ranjit Singh:


When Ranjit Singh was in his teens, he started his military campaign by defeating the chieftains of other misls.

On July 7, 1799, he achieved his first victory by defeating Bhangi Misl and capturing Lahore and then on the strength of his Surya, Pratap, Saheb and bravery, Ranjit Singh ji soon established his authority over many misls of Punjab and Established the vast Sikh empire.

In the year 1803, the leader of the organization named Khalsa and the great ruler Ranjit Singh had won Akalgarh and in the year 1804, Dang and Kasur of Punjab state.

In 1805, Ranjit Singh took control of Amritsar. After Ranjit Singh established his control over Amritsar, he had control over Amritsar and Lahore, the religious and political capital of Punjab state.

After this, in 1809 AD, Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji, who proved his mettle as an example, had conquered Gujarat with the help of his diplomacy and amazing political skills.

The great ruler Ranjit Singh ji, who played an important role in uniting the Sikhs divided into two groups, in the year 1806 had also conquered Doladhi village and Ludhiana and the areas beyond Sutlej with his political ability and diplomacy.

During his victory campaign in the year 1807, Ranjit Singh ji, considered the most powerful and valiant ruler in history, conquered Zira Badni and Narayangarh. After this, Firozpur was conquered in 1807.


Ranjit Singh and Treaty of Amritsar

Fearing the military campaigns of the great Sikh ruler Ranjit Singh, the Sikh princely states located across the Sutlej River had requested the British for protection, so that they all could remain safe.

Earlier, Governor General Lord Minto had sent Sir Charles Metcalf to make a treaty with Ranjit Singh.

Initially Ranjit Singh ji was not ready for the treaty, but when Lord Minto sent his huge army along with Charles Metcalfe and threatened the military power of the British, after which Ranjit Singh ji, understanding the urgency of the time, agreed to the treaty. A treaty was signed with the British in April 1809 AD, which later became famous by the name of Treaty of Amritsar.


Ranjit Singh's victory over Kangra


When Sansarchandra was the ruler of Kangra, Amarsingh Thapa attacked Kangra in around 1809 AD.

After which Ranjit Singh had sent his army for the help of Kangra, after this Amar Singh Thapa fled from there and thus the fort of Kangra was captured by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh also won over Multan:


In the year 1818 AD, Ranjit Singh ji had sent his army chief brave soldiers Kharag Singh and Diwan Chand to conquer Multan, after which in 1818, Multan came under the control of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Ranjit Singh ji achieved victory at Cuttack:


Maharaja Ranjit Singh had established his authority over Cuttack in 1813 AD by giving a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the Governor of Cuttack, Jahadand.

Ranjit Singh ji also took control over Kashmir:


The army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji, the greatest of the Sikhs, faced the Afghan ruler of Kashmir Jabbar Khan in 1819 AD, in which Ranjit Singh Ji won and was successful in establishing his control over Kashmir.

After this, taking forward his conquest campaign, Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji conquered Derajata in 1820-1821 AD, then in 1823 AD he defeated Peshawar and established his authority.

Then in 1834 AD, Peshawar was included in the former Sikh Empire, after this in 1836 AD, Ranjit Singh ji sent his army and conquered Ladakh also.



Death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh


The founder of the Sikh Empire and the great ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh breathed his last on June 27, 1899. After his death his son Dalit Singh succeeded the state. However later his kingdom was destroyed.

After the death of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who founded the Sikh Empire, the British attacked the Sikhs in 1839 AD.

In fact, in the battle of Firozpur, Sikh army commander Lal Singh had cheated his army and looted the Kohinoor diamond and snatched away Kashmir and Hazara state.

After this, Kohinoor was taken to London and was embedded in the crown of Britain's Queen Victoria.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the greatest leader of the Sikhs, did not take any formal education, he was illiterate from the beginning and at the age of just 10, he became adept in sword fighting, horse riding and other war skills like a brave warrior.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji had faced many struggles in his life since childhood, he had lost one eye due to smallpox in his early life. Apart from this, when he was very young, the shadow of his father was removed from his head, due to which full responsibility fell on him at an early age.
